Nippon Shokubai's European subsidiary opens Superabsorbent Polymer and Acrylic Acid plant

Japan-based Nippon Shokubai's European subsidiary has opened a new Superabsorbent Polymer (SAP) plant and Acrylic Acid (AA) plant at its site in Antwerp, Belgium, with an investment of around €35 mln. With this new plant, Nippon's global production capacity of SAP will be 710,000 tpa. The SAP plant in Belgium produced 60,000 tpa and after its expansion it will produce 160,000 tpa. The capacity of the new AA plant is 100,000 tpa. The company has been witnessing a steady growth in demand for one of its core businesses, such as SAP, mainly in central and Eastern Europe. SAP is used while manufacturing disposable nappies.
