Oil prices dipped to hover below US$77 in Asian trade as traders sold off crude after prices rose on the previous day. Oil prices rose after a report by the US Department of Energy stating that crude stockpiles in USA fell more sharply than expected by 5.1 mln barrels last week. This was coupled with strong US company results that have stoked optimism of rising energy demand in the world's biggest economy.
