One more fire breaks out at Formosa’s petrochemical complex in Mailiao, Yunlin County

19-Apr-12
A fire broke out on Tuesday at an oil refinery run by the Formosa Petrochemical Corp in its petrochemical complex in Mailiao, Yunlin County, as per CNA. The fire was put out immediately, and no casualties were reported. Additionally, cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, firefighters suggested the fire could have started during a test run of the plant's equipment when leaking lubricating oil was set aflame by hydrogen gas that was ignited by sparks. After a fire in July 2012, this refinery was ordered shut down by the local government. It has been closed since then, with tests being run to determine when it could resume operations.
