Oriental Energy has signed a license with Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology LLC, a wholly owned Subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, for UNIPOL™ Polypropylene Process Technology for a 400,000 tpa polypropylene plant.Oriental Energy's plant will produce homopolymers, impact copolymers and random copolymers using propylene sourced from their upstream propane dehydrogenation unit. The plant will be located in Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province. This will be the first Dow UNIPOL PP unit in the East China coastal area, the center of the Chinese PP market.
"We chose Dow for our first unit because UNIPOL is the industry leading polypropylene (PP) manufacturing technology due to Dow's superb R&D capability and licensing expertise," said Mr. Wang of Oriental Energy. "With Dow, we will exceed market demands for high-quality random copolymer, homopolymer and impact copolymer polypropylene." "With UNIPOL PP Process Technology, Oriental Energy will produce PP resins that will give fabricators the opportunity to produce PP products that are lighter, clearer and cleaner, properties PP customers are always seeking," said Tracy Cleckler, global commercial director for Dow Plastics Licensing & Catalysts. "Oriental Energy will also be able to make PP resins that allow fabricators to run their lines at a faster rate, benefiting from the higher melt flow capability of some of the UNIPOL product grades."
