Pemex inks deal to supply ethane to proposed petrochemicals complex in Mexico

09-Nov-09
Pemex, Mexico’s state-owned energy group, has inked a deal for supply of ethane feedstock for a proposed petrochem complex in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, in 2015. The new venture known as Ethylene XXI, is a co-operation between Mexico’s Idesa and Brazil’s Braskem. Capacity will comprise a 1 mln tpa ethylene plant and polyolefin units, and it will source about 66,000 bpd of ethane from Pemex. The project will substantially reduce imports of ethane-derived petrochemicals products, improving the commercial balance in Mexico.
