PEMEX Petroquimica to shutter 3 petrochemical plants

Deteriorating demand triggered by the ongoing economic downturn has pressured petrochemical subsidiary of PEMEX Petroquimica (PPQ) to reconsider plant options at multiple sites. Petroleos Mexicanos' (Pemex) has decided to shut down three plants including the 54,000 tpa LDPE plant at Poza Rica petrochemical complex (Escolin plant), the Independencia complex in San Martin Texmeluca, Puebla, which produces methanol, lubes and acrylonitrile; and the 50,000 tpa acrylonitrile unit at the Tula complex.
