Permanent closure of 1,4-butanediol, tetrahydrofuran facilities in Ulsan, mulled by BASF

16-Jan-09
BASF plans to permanently shutter production facility for 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) in Ulsan, arranging for supplies to customers via its global network. These plants have been temporarily shut down since August 2008. BASF will continue to maintain a reliable supply of BDO and THF to its PolyTHF plant at Ulsan from BASF's global network, including the company's THF plant in Caojing, China, which is operating with a new BASF-owned technology. The over ten year old Ulsan plant is also a production hub for specialty PolyTHF grades for adhesives, coatings, and thermoplastic elastomers.
