Eastman Chemical started shutting its 272,000 tpa ethylene cracker No. 4 at its Longview, Texas, facility as part of a planned turnaround, the company said in a filing with state Commission on Environmental Quality, as per Platts. The turnaround includes replacing several isolation valves associated with cracking furnaces and add tie-ins for a future additional furnace. Completion of turnaround is expected by October 19.
"Ethylene or propylene will not be produced from HCC-4 during this partial shutdown. This shutdown is necessary to restore the cracking plant furnaces to normal service and allow for installation of the new furnace," as per the filing.
