Missouri-based market leading performance materials and specialty chemical maker, Solutia has announced a noteworthy 20% increase in prices for the products under its Plastics Products Unit, with effect from August 12, 2008. The major reason for the hike can be attributed to the price rise in polyethylene (a major raw material) owing to higher petrochemical prices over the past several months and short supply during the summer months. As per a senior authority of Solutia, the price hike was imminent to return the justifiable margins to its Plastics Products Unit which develops a range of products under brand names of AstroTurf® and Clean Machine®.
