An opposition rally was staged in front of the Ministry of the Interior's Construction and Planning Agency by a group of Changhua residents and environmental activists, to protest the building of a new petrochemical complex. Estimates of severe damage to the county's coastal wetlands and ocean ecology that could in turn have an adverse effect on the livelihoods of the area's residents has led to severe opposition against the Kuokuang Petrochemical project.
