Global PVC market had been growing at around 4% pa with strong demand growth in Asia, China and India in particular as per MarketPublishers.com. However, the demand collapsed in 2008 due to economic recession and destocking throughout the chain.
In 2009, US polyvinyl chloride exports reached 2.1mln tons, up 56% from 1.37 mln tons in 2008. US producers wrestled with weak domestic demand, stemming largely from floundering construction segments and ongoing stalled credit conditions in the wider economy. Thus, PVC producers were actively exporting to regions in need of PVC pipe and vinyl construction materials. Hong Kong and India led all export destinations going to a total of 180,8 thousand tons in 2009. Demand growth in China is expected to recover by 2011 and reach 12,0 mln tons by 2013.
