Q-Chem II, where test runs are underway, will start ethylene production by end of month. Q-Chem II, is a joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar and Qatar Petroleum that will include new polyethylene and normal alpha olefins (NAO) plants adjacent to the existing Q-Chem complex. Both processes will utilize Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC’s proprietary technology. The Q-Chem II complex will include a 350,000 tpa polyethylene plant and a 345,000 tpa normal alpha olefins plant. Project completion has taken one year more than initially estimated. It has been delayed from Q2 2009 due to technical problems caused by contractor setbacks.
Q-Chem II is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (51%) and Chevron Phillips Chemical International Qatar Holdings LLC (49%), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC (Chevron Phillips Chemical).
