Is Reliance Industries Ltd in talks for clinching a deal to pick up a stake in global petrochemical company Basell? Basell was recently sold to a consortium led by New York-based Access Industries for Euro 4.4 bln, including debt. The Chatterjee Group, a private investment group, had been part of the deal to buy the business but pulled out last month. Purnendu Chatterjee's loss could turn into Reliance Industries' gain.
Basell is a 50:50 joint venture between Royal Dutch and BASF. Based in the Netherlands, Basell is considered the world's largest plastic polypropylene manufacturer with a turnover of $6-8 billion.
