Reliance Industries (RIL) plans to close down its polyester intermediate mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) manufacturing facility at Kurkumbh near Pune. The Kurkumbh unit, which manufactures MEG from industrial alcohol, was acquired two years ago. The area will be utilized to house centralised storage facilities for its retail operations under Reliance Retail.
Plans are underway to shift all the equipment to other units of RIL and Indian Petrochemicals Corporation (IPCL) across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
RIL currently has 3 MEG manufacturing units at the Hazira petrochemical complex in Surat.
