China witnessed a rapid increase in production of basic chemical raw materials in August. Production of ethylene reached 669,000 tons and that of and methanol touched 438,000 tons, up 33.5% and 21.7% respectively, since year ago levels. In August, the price of propylene was 9,500 yuan/ton, up 53.2% year-on-year; toluene prices stand at 6,550 yuan/ton, up 7.4% and methanol stands at 2,500 yuan/ton, down 9.6%.
