Rebuilding Illiopolis plant will not be affected by Texas blast

13-Oct-05
An explosion at Formosa Plastics Corp's Point Comfort, Texas plant last week injured 11 people. The Texas explosion occurred as a contractor was using a forklift to move a wagon of some type and bumped into a pipeline. Huge fireballs shot into the sky and the fire then spread. However, this blast will have no effect on the happenings at Illiopolis. The slow, meticulous job of dismantling and cleaning up areas of the similarly blast-damaged Illiopolis plant, continues. Formosa still has plans to rebuild the Illiopolis plant. Nearly a year and a half after the Illiopolis explosion, investigation continues. An explosion in April 2004, at the Illiopolis plant killed five workers and injured several others. The plant has been inoperable ever since.
