Rise in price of thermoplastics likely in Europe in January

08-Jan-10
A hike in thermoplastic prices in likely in January on tight avails. In the month of December, the planned increases by West European producers of standard thermoplastics were hardly managed as per Plastics Information Europe. Most polyolefin buyers accepted at a small increase, regarding the rise of €7-10/ton C2 and C3 contracts as insufficient reason to pay more. A saturated market forced PVC prices down. PS players passed on the €35/ton increase for SM, with EPS makers succeeding only in the packaging segment, while PET rose €45/ton on higher feedstocks.
