Rohm & Haas Co. and Tasnee Sahara Olefins Co. have formed a joint venture Saudi Acrylic Monomer Co. to produce 250,000 tons of acrylic acid and related esters in Saudi Arabia. Production at the plant is planned to commence in 2011.
TSOC, (comprising Tasnee, a private company, and Sahara Petrochemical Co.) will own 75% of the venture. Rohm and Haas will invest US$50 million for the balance 25% equity stake.TSOC will have exclusive rights to sell a portion of the products within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
