Total Petrochemicals UK is using specialist decommissioning, and demolition consultancy RVA Group to oversee and co-ordinate the dismantling of its polystyrene manufacturing site close to the centre of Stalybridge, near Manchester, as per www.plantengineer.org.uk. Work is now almost complete, following pre-demolition survey and identification work last June and commencement of the dismantling operation in September.
As with many other similar projects, this work has posed a range of technical challenges, including the removal of hazardous materials from the 1950s manufacturing site. It has also involved the recovery of process plant and equipment for re-use and the removal of associated utilities equipment, pipebridges, cables, pipework and process plant structures, tank farms, workshops, laboratories and offices.
