SABIC and Sinopec ink MoU to collaborate on polycarbonate production in China

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly produce polycarbonate in China. The two companies will jointly invest in the new 260,000 tpa polycarbonate plant to be operational by 2015. Capacity will be added to the existing JV- SSTPC (Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical Company). Fully operational since 2010, SSTPC (a 50:50 JV and established in October, 2009) produces various petrochemical products, including Ethylene, Polyethylene, Ethylene Glycol, Polypropylene, Butadiene, Phenol and Butene-1, among others.
