Successful start up of SCG-Dow new specialty elastomers plant JV

SCG-Dow specialty elastomers joint venture at Rayong Province, Thailand, has attained successful startup on May 17, with full-scale operations scheduled to start in two weeks, as per PlasticsToday. With this, Dow Chemical will have nearly 2 bln lbs of polyolefin elastomers capacity as of June 1. SCG-DOW Group is a joint venture formed in 1987 between Dow and Siam Cement Group (SCG) that is comprised of four joint companies that manufacture and supply markets across Asia Pacific with styrene monomer; styrene-butadiene latex; polyethylene; polystyrene; and compounding products. Luis Cirihal, Dow Elastomers global business director, said that the new Thailand plant "grows Dow's global asset base, enables Dow to expand our reach in Asian markets, maintain a cost-competitive position, and brings leading polyolefin elastomer capabilities to the region."
