Sabic plans setting up warehouses in SE Asia

09-Jun-05
Sabic has currently planned expansions at an investment outlay exceeding US$8bn (E6.5bn), to raise polymer production from 43 million tpa in 2004 to over 60 million tpa by 2008. Sabic's planned expansion will include the construction of two new plants, one in Saudi Arabia and one in Europe, with Basell's Hostalen HDPE technology. Sabic currently has three warehouses, one each in Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong. With sales volume expected to double by 2006, Sabic has announced plans to expand its network and warehousing facilities in South-East Asia. The six new warehouses in the Asia Pacific region are being considered to be located in Vietnam, China, Australia and New Zealand. These warehouses will provide the additional infrastructural support to customers and will enable the company to shorten delivery time to customers. China's stupendous economic growth and insatiable demand for all petrochemical products will continue, despite escalating oil prices. The Chinese economy is expected to grow by 8%-10% in the next 5 years with petrochemical products expected to show growth of at least 8%. It is clear that the steady boost in petrochemicals capacity in the Middle East is being assumed to get absorbed by growing demand from China in the next decade.
