Shell to use reinforced plastic tanks to protect the environment

08-Jun-05
Double walled, reinforced plastic tanks, fitted with electronic sensory devices and designed for safe storage of fuel, helping to protect the environment are to be used by the Dutch oil major Shell that has two petrol pump outlets in Bangalore and one in Chennai. These tanks, supplemented by the use of polyethylene flexible pipeline are going to be used in Shell's attempt to maximise indigenous sourcing of equipment and products. They will be an alternative to steel tanks and shall be supplied by a local company to its retail outlets. Steel tanks get corroded, resulting in the leakage of fuels. It is therefore that these tanks, regarded as a feature of the eco-friendly technologies and practices followed by the company, are going to be used to package fuels in the future. This is part of the plans of Dutch oil major Shell who has secured permission from the Centre to establish 2,000 auto fuel retail outlets in India.
