South African petrochemicals supremo Sasol has approved the construction of ethylene purification unit at its Sasol Polymers plant in Sasolburg. To be built at an investment outlay of R1.9 bln, the plant is expected to go on stream in H2-2013. Capacity will be ramped to 100% by 2015, enabling the company to boost ethylene production by approximately 48,000 tpa. The ethylene will be used as feedstock for the manufacture of polyethylene and will reduce the country’s dependence on imports.
