Showa Denko K.K. (SDK)’s Oita ethylene plant upgradation, in progress since May 2, has been completed. SDK has completed the work of improving energy efficiency of its ethylene plant with the installation of large state-of-the-art cracking furnaces. Upon completion of the work, energy efficiency has improved 5.3% and CO2 emissions will be reduced by 59,000 tpa- about 6% from the 1990 levels in compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, without relying on emission trading.
