21-Oct-05
China's Sinopec Co., Ltd. and Japan's Mitsui Chemical Co., Ltd. Will build a 120,000-ton bisphenol A (BPA) project, the largest in China, in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone. The project, a 50:50 partnership between the two, will be called Shanghai Sinopec Gaoqiao Mitsui Chemical Co. Ltd. Total investment outlay is estimated at US$100 million. BPA is the main raw material to produce epoxy resin and polycarbonate resin. For a long time, China's BPA supply has largely depended on imports. The demand for BPA is increasing gradually due to the fast growth of the Chinese economy.
