Sinopec commences construction at Tianjin

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) has commenced construction at all sections of its 1 mln tpa ethylene project and associated 350,000 ton phenol and acetone project. All civil construction for the project located at Tianjin would be completed within this year. The Tianjin project consists of an ethylene sector, an oil-refining sector and a terminal project. After it completes construction in 2009, the Tianjin branch of Sinopec Group will be capable of producing 1.2 mln tons of ethylene and refining 12.5 mln tpa of crude oil. The ethylene unit, including 8 sets of devices, is expected to finish civil constructing in April. The static equipment including large tower will be in manufactured in May. The 220KV substation will become ready for operation and relevant railways will finish construction in August. A generating unit and a furnace of the thermal project will be ready for operation in October; and at the end of December, most of the equipment of the ethylene section should be installed and the pipeline prefabrication and installation should be 50% completed.
