China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) is reported to have commenced building an ethylene facility at its Zhenhai refinery in the eastern province of Zhejiang. The project, to have an initial investment by Sinopec of CNY22 billion (US$2.8 billion), is to be the first ethylene project in the province. The facility will have ethylene output capacity of 1 million metric tpa. Construction is expected to be complete by 2009. The region is a booming private economy with a large demand for petrochemical products.
