Solvay completes first phase of major sulfone expansion

05-Nov-07
As part of its multi-phase, comprehensive sulfone expansion plan, Solvay Advanced Polymers has completed two major expansion projects. This completion marks the start up of phase two projects, at an investment outlay exceeding US$100 mln. The expansion plans will help Solvay grow in its leadership position in sulfone polymer and monomer production, and includes its intention to further develop production assets and capabilities at various locations in Asia. Solvay has commissioned its new Radel sulfone assets at its Marietta, Ohio facility, nearly tripling its production capability. In addition, the company has expanded its sulfone assets in Augusta, Georgia, increasing that site's production of the key monomer, 4-4 dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS). Sulfone polymer development serves the needs of customers in demanding industries such as healthcare, aerospace, automotive, membranes and plumbing.
