In a bid to minimize rising losses, leading European expanded polystyrene (EPS) producer Styrochem Finland plans to terminate production at its plant at Kokemäki next April. A 20% reduction is cost is expected with this termination. The company will entirely focus production and other manufacturing support activities at Porvoo, on the southern coast, where a new 50,000 tpa capacity plant is planned to come onstream in May 2009. Finland is the production base for all of Styrochem's European sales operations, including offices in Germany, UK, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Russia and Denmark. The company's total annual output will rise to 100,000 tpa, when the new facility.
