Taiwan is immediately evaluating the possibility of allowing companies to set up naphtha cracking operations in China. The government is considering lifting a ban on setting up petrochemical activities in China, as it’s president withdrew support for the controversial US$24 bln Kuokuang local refinery project, as per Reuters.
As per current rules, Taiwan bans petrochemical firms from setting up upstream activities in political rival China, though downstream manufacturing of products such as plastics is allowed.
