The Chatterjee Group has approached the Supreme Court with a plea to “correct” and clarify a few references in the Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) judgment delivered three months ago, as per Telegraph India. The company has sought deletion of one paragraph and modification of another, relating to the contentious 15.5 crore shares that can help the private promoter gain control of HPL. It has also sought a clarification on a third point.
The appeal was filed on December 22, weeks after the Bengal government suggested that it was planning to auction all its shares in HPL to fetch the best possible price to the state. According to legal circles, the “corrections”, in case it is allowed by the Supreme Court, will come in handy if and when the private promoter decides to mount a fresh legal battle.
