Toyota Tsusho's antistatic additive get FDA go-ahead

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given a green signal to Toyota Tsusho's Pelestat antistatic additive for use in food contact applications. Pelestat is the permanent, Inherent Dissipative Polymer, non-migratory antistatic agent, produced by an associate company, Sanyo Chemical Industries, but exclusively distributed by Toyota Tsusho. This antistatic additive, which already boasts of a wide customer base in Europe, can be used in extrusion of PP and PE films to provide first class transparency and smooth surface appearance. Pelestat is IDP (Inherent Dissipative Polymer) based on polyamide or polyolefin with special polyether segments. as per company's websites, Pelestat actually forms a conductive polymer matrix in the host thermoplastic. With proper processing procedures, users can obtain products with permanent moisture independent static dissipation levels of 109 to 1012 ohms/sq surface resistivity.
