| Scientists at the Institute of Agrochemical Research, The Netherlands
have developed a new biosynthetic process from crops like potatoes
and peas. The bacterial genes have been isolated and introduced
to yeast, which could produce polyesters in plants. Medium molecular
weight polyesters have been developed so far. These polyesters could
find usage in synthetic binder or for soft fibers due to their elastomeric
property. The process would have to be developed on an industrial
scale to make polyester cost effective. |
