USA,
one of the largest markets for plastic film
is expected to grow from almost 6 million tons
in 2005 to 6.9 million tons by 2010, as per
                                  a report by Freedonia.
Low density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low
density polyethylene (LLDPE) film will increase
its market share to 64% (by far the largest
plastic film) by 2010. Shrink film & stretch
film sectors are expected to grow faster. Film
used for food packaging is expected to grow
at a higher rate. HDPE film, due to its usage
in packaging of packed food & retail bags
is expected to grow better than LD/LLDPE film.

PP film is expected to grow at the fastest rate
(almost 3.5%) due to cost advantages as well
as increased activity in food packaging and
                                  other applications.
PVC, on account of environmental concerns, would
grow very marginally in the next 5 years. A
severe competition from polyolefin films and
reducing demand of red meat will be responsible
                                  for this meager growth.

Packaging alone accounts for 73% of total plastic
film consumption in USA in 2005. Its share will
further increase in 2010 to at least 75%, if
                                  not higher by 2010.
