National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced that 11 petrochemical projects will come on stream in Iran in the current year. The projects that will become operational are:
Carbon monoxide and acetic acid project at Fanavaran
The first phase of isocyanate Project at Karun
The second pure terephthalic acid (PTA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) project at Tondguyan
The low density polyethylene (LDPE) project at Laleh
The third ammoniac and polycarbonate project at Razi complexes.
The value of petrochemical exports represented 21% of Iran's total non-oil exports.
The projects to be implemented in Mahshahr Special Economic Petrochemical Zone will include an 800,000 tpa ethylene steam cracker, an 800,000 tpa polyethylene unit, a 400,000 tpa polypropylene unit and an aromatics complex to produce 700,000 tpa of paraxylene. The project is expected to start up in early 2009.
