4 killed as fire breaks out at Reliance petrochem unit

09-Jun-08
A fire broke out in a section of Reliance Industries' plant No. 2 with a capacity to produce 60,000 tpa of LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) at Nagothane in Maharashtra on Friday. Four people have been killed after the fire, and about 15 have been injured at the fire which occurred after the plant was shut down for routine maintenance about 24 hours earlier. Investigations are on as to the precise cause of the fire, which incidentally has not resulted in any material loss or stoppage in supplies to customers. Production has not been disrupted at any of its other units. The Nagothane complex has five production units, with a total production capacity of 4,00,000 tpa, including another one lakh TPA LLDPE plant.
