Bayer MaterialScience LLC, producer of high performance plastics and polymers, has unveiled two-component waterborne (2K WB) polyurethane high-performance coatings sealing concrete floors as an eco-friendly alternative to solventborne polyurethane coatings. The new two-component waterborne PU coatings are formulated with Bayhydur® and Bayhydrol® UV resins and are said to have properties that are similar to solventborne coatings while containing ultra-low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
According to the company, these 2K WB polyurethane coatings exhibit high abrasion resistance to withstand heavy walking traffic and are ideally suited for indoor and outdoor applications. In addition, they are odorless, UV light stable for resistance to weathering, non-yellowing, and hot-tire resistant. The coatings are said to be highly chemical resistant, a feature that may make them appropriate for use in anti-graffiti wall coatings, according to new research and comply with stringent VOC regulations for floor coatings.
