Taiwan's Formosa Plastics is to restart its 260,000 tpa linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit in Mailiao by end of the week, as per Platts. The plant has been restarted to meet domestic demand, but how long the plant will run remains unclear. The LLDPE unit was shut in August due to reduced supply of ethylene feedstock since its ethylene supplier, Formosa Petrochemicals Corp, is only running one of three steam crackers. Plagued by acute feedstock shortages, the company's 350,000 tpa high density polyethylene (HDPE) unit is running at 50% operating rate.
