Modern Petrofils, India's third largest manufacturer of polyester is reportedly expected to raise the PET polycondensation capacity at Baroda unit from the current 210
mt/day to 240 mt/day by the year end. The company also has plans to set up a new 600 mt/day PET unit at Baroda to manufacture fiber and bottle chip grade material to supply the rising Indian market. CNPC-owned China Textile Industrial Engineering Institute has been awarded contract for engineering and construction of the new 600 mt/day unit which is expected to start operations by March 2009.
As of now, Reliance Industries and Indian Oil Corporation source purified terephthalic acid (PTA) to the company while Indian Glycols Ltd and Reliance Industries are major suppliers of monoethylene glycol (MEG). Owing to the new PET unit, Modern Petrofils' monthly requirements of feedstocks including PTA and MEG will increase considerably.
