Reliance plans a 200,000 tpa PET plant in North Carolina

11-Jul-08
India's petrochem major, Reliance Industries plans to build a PET resin plant at Kinston, North Caroline. The 200,000 tpa PET plant estimated to come onstream by end of 2009, is to be located on the Unifi Kinston LLC site. Approximately 68,000 tpa of monoethylene glycol (MEG) and 174,000 tpa of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) required as feedstock for the plant will be sourced from North America. Currently, the site houses a polyester yarn (POY) facility which will be replaced by polymerization units. Reliance proposes to relocate the spinning machines from Kinston to India in a bid to meet growing demand from the polyester markets in the region.
