A new round of testing on biodegradable plastic solution EcoPure, has been completed by Bio-Tec Environmental. EcoPure is its second generation additive that makes green products by turning regular plastic into biodegradable plastic, resulting in environmentally sustainable products. The ASTM D5511 test was run on polypropylene, PVC, PE and EVA at an independent lab, and the results conclude that the new additive makes plastics biodegrade in a microbial rich environment when used at a .7% concentration. It has tested to be safe for food and drug packaging, and meets FDA standards. EcoPure allows microbes to digest the carbon inside the complex plastic chain (known as a polymer), resulting in two benefits. First, the plastic breaks down into simple organic compounds so that it ceases to be a burden on future generations as regular plastic is. It also creates methane which can be captured from the landfill and used for energy production. The company also recently developed a version of EcoPure for use in clear PET, and continues to work on variations that will meet the needs over every plastic fabricator.
