Arkema Inc. has recently unveiled two improved grades to its existing line of Thermolite® tin stabilizers which it says brings down cost for variety of pipe applications and give formulators a single stabilizer suitable for most extrusions of rigid PVC pipe. Manufacturers of rigid PVC for demanding applications like thin-wall agricultural pipe, high-shear pipe, large diameter pipe and sewer pipe now have more options. Thermolite® 130 and Thermolite® 135 tin stabilizers were developed to permit the use of a single stabilizer for various pipe processes, offering the potential of lowering overall tin content while maintaining quality. In addition, the new stabilizers can be substituted for other stabilizer products without altering process conditions.
"At a time when the costs of energy and raw materials continue to be volatile, I think the rigid PVC industry will welcome products like Thermolite® 130 tin stabilizer and Thermolite® 135 tin stabilizer that can help keep their costs down while improving their processes," comments Jim McAliney, General Manager, PVC Additives, of Arkema's Functional Additives business. The switch to a single stabilizer can lower inventory costs and reduce blending errors, giving additional savings. Thermolite® 130 tin stabilizer and Thermolite® 135 tin stabilizer are well suited for extrusion of electrical conduit and telephone ducts. Both new stabilizer grades have achieved NSF and PPI provisional approval for potable water applications.
