INEOS Phenol to shelve cumene production at 550,000 ton Texas plant

17-Apr-09
Marred by plummeting demand in the Phenol and Acetone market, INEOS Phenol has provisionally shelve cumene production at its 550,000 ton Port Arthur plant in Texas (USA) from 15th April 2009. INEOS is currently consulting with its employees and their representatives as the decision will result in the temporary reduction of workforce by 15 employees. The 21 employee strong INEOS Phenol facility at Port Arthur produces Cumene as an essential raw material for phenol and acetone. However, the company indicated the cumene production will resume at the plant if the demand for phenol and acetone improves.
