Aromatics plant in Sohar to be onstream ahead of schedule

South Korea's LG International (LGI), Oman Refinery Co and Oman Oil Co, Plan to bring their joint-venture aromatics complex at Sohar on stream, ahead of schedule. The JV plant is planned to go onstream by third quarter 2008 as against the originally scheduled commencement of commercial production only in Q4. The advancement of schedule has been possible as the designing of the units progressed rapidly. The aromatics complex is to have capacity of 800,000 mta of paraxylene and 200,000 mta of benzene. LGI owns a 20% stake in this project, while the controlling 60% stake is held by Oman Oil Co. The remaining 20% stake is held by Oman Refinery Co.
