Assam government to invest Rs 500 crore in new methanol unit

The Assam government plans to invest Rs 500 crores in a new methanol plant at Namrup- as part of Assam Petrochemicals Ltd. Production at the new unit is being planned at 500 tons/day of methanol, in addition to the existing plant, which has a capacity of producing 100 tons/day of methanol. However, APL has to sort out the issue of feedstock (gas) supply with Oil India Ltd. APL is one among the three profit-making PSUs owned by the state government and the company has been yielding a profit of around Rs 10 crore every year in the past five years.
