Beijing's new regulation of over 257 chemicals could result in closure of several petrochemical makers

02-May-08
With effect from 1 May through 17 October, Beijing's Municipal Public Security Bureau has imposed a blanket rule on the production and sale of over 257 chemicals in regions falling within a 500km radius. This will ensure that pollution would be curbed ahead of the Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in August, and may also result in the closure of a number of petrochemical makers and traders. Products such as caustic soda, propylene, ethylene, diethylene glycol (DEG), polystyrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene are among the 257 products listed.
