A blackout has been responsible for halting entire operations at SK Energy's polymer factory for over one hour. A crane hit high-voltage lines going into the plant in Ulsan, South Gyeongsang Province, resulting in the accident. As naphtha and some additives became contaminated, it will render the plant unable to conduct business for 3-4 days, resulting in massive losses of billions of wons. All materials at the plant have become completely unusable, as they have solidified in the pipelines. They will have to be disposed off by incineration - a process estimated to take a few more days. Since the petrochem major is amply stocked, chances of supply disruption seem minimal during the repair period.
