Borealis to build a 350,000 tpa LDPE plant in Sweden

22-Mar-07
Polyolefins major Borealis has decided to build a 350,000 tpa LDPE plant, using Basell tubular technology an investment outlay of €370 mln at its Stenungsund site, in Sweden. This investment will be in line with its efforts to maintain its market leading position in wire and cable grades of polyethylene. The Swedish plant will supply to global markets. The new plant complements a €42 mln cross linking facility at the plant, north of Gothenburg, due to come on stream in H2-2007. As part of its scrap and build philosophy, the company will phase out three old LDPE lines and one Unipol reactor at the Swedish site with total capability of 230,000 tpa.
