Pre-disinvestment, IPCL had over 13,000 workers at it’s Vadodara, Nagothane and Gandhar complexes. After its acquisition by Reliance Industries Limited, around 4,500 employees of the Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (IPCL) have bid farewell to the company by availing the voluntary separation scheme (VSS). All the VSS schemes announced till date, have been for employees at all the three complexes. However, the latest announcement has been for employees of the Vadodara complex. Total employee strength at IPCL’s Vadodara complex is 8,000 and with 2,410 workers already availing VSS, the total headcount at IPCL has come down to 5,500. With three days left for the expiry of the VSS scheme for officer-level employees, the figure may go up with regards to the employees opting for VSS at the Vadodara complex.
Agitating workers ended their protests on Wednesday, after an announcement by the labour commissioner, intimating IPCL management to not transfer any employee till the issue is amicably resolved.
